{"id":121,"date":"2026-05-29T20:55:16","date_gmt":"2026-05-29T20:55:16","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/burntbutter.ca\/?p=121"},"modified":"2026-05-29T20:55:16","modified_gmt":"2026-05-29T20:55:16","slug":"the-thanksgiving-we-served-bread-pudding-as-stuffing-all-day","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/burntbutter.ca\/?p=121","title":{"rendered":"The Thanksgiving We Served Bread Pudding as Stuffing All Day"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<h1 class=\"wp-block-heading\">The Thanksgiving We Served Bread Pudding as Stuffing All Day<\/h1>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">People think restaurant kitchens are these perfectly organized machines run by calm geniuses with tweezers.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Sometimes they are.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">And sometimes an entire caf\u00e9 serves sweet bread pudding covered in gravy for Thanksgiving dinner all goddamn day.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">I worked in a caf\u00e9 where we did huge holiday prep ahead of time:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>turkey<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>mashed potatoes<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>gravy<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>vegetables<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>stuffing<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Containers everywhere. Fridges packed. Everybody exhausted.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">It was chaos.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">And on Thanksgiving Day itself, somebody called in sick, so I got dragged in even though my life was already a complete disaster at the time. My car had been broken into. I was stressed out of my mind. Everybody working food service knows those shifts where your soul already left your body before you even clocked in.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">So I\u2019m serving dinners all day and customers keep saying:<br>\u201cThe stuffing is SO good.\u201d<br>\u201cI love how sweet it is.\u201d<br>\u201cThis is amazing.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">And I remember thinking:<br>Sweet?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">But Thanksgiving service is war.
