{"id":129,"date":"2026-05-29T21:01:42","date_gmt":"2026-05-29T21:01:42","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/burntbutter.ca\/?p=129"},"modified":"2026-05-29T21:01:42","modified_gmt":"2026-05-29T21:01:42","slug":"why-did-you-wash-your-hands-then","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/burntbutter.ca\/?p=129","title":{"rendered":"Why Did You Wash Your Hands Then?"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<h1 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Why Did You Wash Your Hands Then?<\/h1>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">One thing kitchens teach you fast is that people love pretending they\u2019re clean while doing absolutely filthy things.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Case in point:<br>washing your hands properly\u2026<br>and then drying them on a disgusting wet dish towel that\u2019s been marinating in bacteria since breakfast service.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Why.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Why did we even do the handwashing part then?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Always dry your hands on:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>a clean towel<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>paper towel<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>fresh cloth<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>something that doesn\u2019t smell like old soup and regret<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Because that damp kitchen towel hanging off the oven handle has probably:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>wiped counters<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>touched raw meat juice<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>cleaned spills<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>dried dishes<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>survived three emotional breakdowns<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>and seen things no towel should see<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">People massively underestimate how gross damp fabric gets in kitchens.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Wet towels are basically tiny bacteria apartments with open-concept floor plans.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">And the thing is:<br>good kitchens become obsessive about little habits because little habits prevent big problems.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">That\u2019s why professional kitchens drill things into your brain:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>clean towels<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>sanitize surfaces<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>separate cutting boards<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>fresh cloths<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>constant handwashing<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>changing gloves properly instead of wearing the same pair for six geological eras<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Because food safety usually isn\u2019t one giant catastrophic mistake.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">It\u2019s dozens of tiny lazy decisions stacking on top of each other until somebody ends up praying to the bathroom floor.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">And honestly?<br>A lot of cooking is just learning which shortcuts are harmless and which shortcuts are disgusting.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Using stale bread for croutons?<br>Excellent.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Drying clean hands on a swamp towel?<br>Absolutely not.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Somewhere right now a kitchen towel is:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>damp<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>crunchy<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>vaguely warm<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>and technically alive<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Don\u2019t trust it.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Why Did You Wash Your Hands Then?
